FAQs on Form 2290

Can I register my vehicle without filing a Form 2290?

No. All states require proof of payment of the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) for any taxable vehicle before it can be registered.

Form 2290 must be filed for new vehicles by the last day of the following the month after the vehicle is first used. For example, if you purchase and first use a new truck in February you must file your Form 2290 by March  31st.
