FAQs on Form 2290

I bought a used truck this year. Do I still need to pay taxes or did the previous owner handle that for me?

Yes, the Heavy Vehicle Use Taxes do not transfer from one owner to another. You will be required to file a Form 2290 and pay taxes on any qualifying taxable vehicle on a prorated scale.

Form 2290 will be due for this vehicle the last day of the month following the month when the vehicle was first used. For example, if you first use this truck in February then Form 2290 will be due March 31st.

If you have any questions please contact our outstanding, 100% US-based support team by phone, email, or live chat. We will be happy to help through the filing process.
