FAQs on Form 2290

What happens if I forgot to file Form 2290 online?

If you file Form 2290 after the deadline, you will be subject to penalties and interest. Failure to file by the Form 2290 due date has a penalty of 4.5% of the total tax due, assessed monthly for up to five months. Late filers of IRS Form 2290 will face an additional monthly penalty of 0.5% of the total tax due. Additional interest charges of 0.54% per month accrue as well. If you owe penalties, the IRS will notify the taxpayer via letter to the address on the return. Payment for penalties cannot be made using ExpressTruckTax, you must pay penalties and interest directly to the IRS.
