FAQs on Form 2290

What happens if I forgot to file Form 2290?

Form 2290 can be filed after the deadline has passed, but the tax due may be subject to penalties and interest. Failure to file IRS Form 2290 by the deadline has a penalty of 4.5% of the total tax due, assessed monthly for up to five months. Late filers also face an additional monthly penalty of 0.5% of the total tax due. Additional interest charges of 0.54% per month accrue as well. If penalties are accrued, the IRS will notify the taxpayer via letter to the address on the return. Payment for penalties cannot be made on ExpressTruckTax.com, they must be paid directly to the IRS.
