IRS Form 2290 - Amendments If the taxable gross weight of a vehicle increases during the period and the vehicle falls in a new category, you should file an amended return.
A Form 2290 amendment must be filed when any vehicle details change after the previously filed 2290 return.
For example, if the taxable gross weight (or the unloaded gross weight) of your vehicle increases, you must report it to the IRS by filing a Form 2290 amendment.
This could happen if the reported gross weight of your vehicle was 60,000 lbs (category G), but the gross weight of the same vehicle increased to 70,000 lbs (category V). If you vehicle’s gross taxable weight increases, you must calculate and report the additional tax using a Form 2290 amendment.
